Vocabulary: Key Information
In IELTS, your knowledge of vocabulary is part of the English Language skill being tested. The examiners will assess your ability to use a wide range of vocabulary appropriately and accurately. In the test, vocabulary forms 25% of your overall score.
To improve your vocabulary, the following tips will be helpful:
- Use helpful sources: you can watch and listen to documentaries, news broadcasts, talk shows, TED Talks, radio, podcasts, etc.
- Keep a vocabulary notebook: you will need to get a handy notebook where you can write new words, their parts of speech, meanings, usages, and pronunciations.
- Use the new words when speaking the English Language: it is not just enough to write the new words in a notebook. You need to make a conscious effort to use them in your sentences.
